Abstract

The Service is publishing two related rules in one document. Both are intended to reduce the risk of introducing a chytrid fungus that can be lethal to some native salamander species and is not yet found in the United States. The final rule affirms the 2016 interim rule that added all species of salamanders from 20 genera to the list of injurious amphibians, which prohibits their importation. The other rule is a new (second) interim rule that simultaneously adds 16 genera as injurious that recent research has determined are also carriers of the fungus.
