Abstract
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposes to list the coal darter (Percina brevicauda) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. The coal darter is a small, benthic freshwater fish native to the Mobile River Basin in Alabama. We propose this listing because we have determined that the coal darter is threatened due to habitat loss or degradation and climate change. The proposed rule includes prohibitions and exceptions to the prohibitions that are necessary and advisable for the conservation of the coal darter.
