Abstract
This document presents a summary of a status review, conducted in response to a petition submitted to the National Marine Fisheries Service’s (NMFS) pursuant to the Endangered Species Act (ESA), for the tope shark (Galeorhinus galeus) and NMFS’s determinations regarding whether distinct population segments (DPSs) of this species warrant listing under the ESA. As described in the document, NMFS is proposing to list two DPSs as threatened species and has determined that four other DPSs do not warrant listing under the ESA. Public comments are solicited on the proposed listings.
