Abstract

NMFS proposes regulations that would implement Amendment 34 to the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan. The proposed regulations include a closure to commercial groundfish bottom contact gear in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS) at the site of Sur Ridge for coral research and restoration. The purpose of this action is to protect future deep-sea coral research and restoration projects at the Sur Ridge site from the impacts of fishing gear. The coral research and restoration projects are intended to restore injuries to habitat resulting from the sinking of the drydock YFD-70 in MBNMS in October 2016.
