Abstract

Framework 15 to the Monkfish Fishery Management Plan/Framework 6 to the Spiny Dogfish Fishery Management Plan was jointly developed by the New England Fishery Management Council and the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council to address Atlantic sturgeon bycatch in the gillnet fisheries for monkfish and spiny dogfish. The Joint Framework proposes area-based gear requirements for vessels fishing in these gillnet fisheries that minimize bycatch of Atlantic sturgeon to the extent practicable.
