What Air Transport Association filed (1)

Oct 6, 2004· FAA-2004-18877-0008

FAA has proposed adoption of a new AD for certain Boeing 737-100, -200, -200C, and -300 series airplanes [line numbers 1 through 1670 inclusive]. This proposed AD would require repetitive detailed inspections to detect discrepancies of the retaining pin lugs on the support fitting of the main landing gear (MLG) beam, and rework of the support fitting, or replacement of the fitting if necessary. ATA requests FAA to allow the ATA the opportunity to provide an additional comment on this proposed rule. Our members generally support the intent of the rulemaking; however, additional review and clarification would be desirable on the attached comments. Specifically: ¿Replacement or Rework ¿ Additional information needs to be provided within the AD to clarify the situation as the AD indicates that the replacement is to be accomplished per Accomplishment Instructions, of the referenced Boeing Service Bulletin. However, under certain situations, the Accomplishment Instructions can instruct the operator to install a self-locking nut. Your serious consideration of this additional observation and comment would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Robert Peel Director of Quality Air Transport Association
