What Air Transport Association filed (2)

Dec 8, 2004· FAA-2004-19566-0007

FAA proposes to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to all Airbus A300 B2, B4, and -600 series airplanes. This proposed AD would require repetitively inspecting for cracking in the web of nose rib 7 of the inner flap on the wings, and related investigative/corrective actions if necessary. ATA appreciates the opportunity to comment on this proposed rule. Our members generally support the intent of the rulemaking; however, additional review and clarification would be desirable on the attached comments. Specifically: ¿Man-hours Listed in Proposed Rule ¿ Revise to 5.0 man-hours ¿Flight with Cracks including Ferry Flights ¿ Allow the flyable crack provisions as listed in the S/B and include provisions for ferry flights. ¿Relevant Service Information ¿Implies that only improved style ribs may be installed after the effective date of the rule. The final rule should be clarified to prevent any confusion related to this. ¿Plain Language Writing Style ¿ The use of the term ¿Related Investigative/Corrective Actions¿ may be interpreted to imply that such a section exists in the affected S/B, even though it is a specific ¿collector¿ term for the rule. Your serious consideration of these observations and comments would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Robert Peel Director of Quality Air Transport Association
