The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) appreciates the opportunity to provide comments on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) on the proposed change to the compliance date for the ICD-10-1CM code set, published in the April 17, 2012 Federal Register. The Academy offers these comments on the proposed rule to ensure that new policies appropriately accommodate the unique aspects of health care services delivered by primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists. The Academy appreciates the opportunity to provide comments on the April 17th proposed rule and looks forward to working with CMS to ensure that the HIPAA standard diagnosis code set meets the needs of pediatric providers and patients.
