On behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a non-profit professional organization of more than 67,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, I write in response to the Request for Information (RFI) from the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Health and Human Services (the Departments) related to the application of the preventive services requirements under section 2713 of the Public Health Service Act (PHS Act) to over-the-counter (OTC) preventive items and services available without a prescription by a health care provider. Overall, the Academy supports the efforts by the Departments to improve access to OTC preventive items and services without cost sharing and without a prescription by a health care provider. Our detailed comments are attached.
