I urge the FDA to move forward with a proposed rule that will limit nicotine to non-addictive levels in cigarettes, a move that can make a huge difference in Americans' health. As a family physician, I would like to register my support of the FDA's decision to gather information on how to best implement a regulation that would reduce nicotine to non-addictive levels in cigarettes. This request for information is an important step toward cutting the addictive power of cigarettes and holds the potential for helping people who smoke to quit. Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death and illness in our nation. In my practice, I see too often the devastating impact that smoking has on my patients. I applaud the FDA's commitment to reducing the number of Americans who smoke, thereby improving their health.
