On behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a non-profit professional organization of more than 67,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, I write in response to the Request for Information (RFI) from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), in partnership with the heads of agencies, to identify effective methods for assessing whether agency policies and actions (e.g., programs, services, processes, and operations) equitably serve all eligible individuals and communities, particularly those that are currently and historically underserved. The Academy believes we have a responsibility to dismantle racism at every level and eliminate disparities in the health and well-being of children to ensure they reach their full potential. This requires the root causes of health disparities to be addressed, including direct public policy action from policymakers. In response to OMB's effort to gather resources to support agencies as they conduct internal assessments on the state of equity in their policies, programs, services, processes, and operations, the Academy shares the following resources and responses to inform the federal government's work. Our specific comments are attached.
