I am a pediatrician at a NYC Hospital and am a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. I feel this proposal is absolutely wrong and will have terrible consequences. Families are coming here because they have no other choice. We now have more COVID cases than most of the world so the decision to limit refugee access based on this is hard to fathom. Immigrants are first and foremost human beings. Children and their families need are help and protection. I take care of undocumented families who are hard working, pay taxes, loving parents and benefit our society.

Abstract

On December 23, 2020, during the COVID–19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security (‘‘DHS’’) and the Department of Justice (‘‘DOJ’’) (collectively, ‘‘the Departments’’) published a final rule entitled Security Bars and Processing (‘‘Security Bars final rule’’) to define ‘‘danger to the security of the United States’’ to include certain emergency public health concerns. The Departments have delayed the final rule’s effective date such that it has never gone into effect. This rulemaking further delays the Security Bars final rule’s effective date until December 31, 2025.
