August 23, 2004 Public Information and Records Integrity Branch (PIRIB) (7502C) Office of Pesticide Programs Environmental Protection Agency 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington, DC 20460 Attention Docket Number: OPP-2004-0167: RE: Registration of 2.4 - Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid Dear Sir or Madam: The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) submits these comments on the risk assessment of 2.4 - Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid (2.4-D) pursuant to its registration (OPP-2004-0167). 2.4-D is a safe, affordable herbicide used on many agricultural operations. With more than 100 label uses, it offers unprecedented wide-spectrum weed control and resistance-management applications. We are generally pleased with EPA's review of this herbicide and encourage the agency to continue its sound science-based review of 2.4-D through the completion of registration. AFBF believes that new and pre-existing safe uses of 2.4-D for more than 55 years supports its registration for all current label uses. Thank you for your consideration of the importance of 2.4-D to American agriculture and our comments supporting its full registration. Sincerely, Mark Maslyn Executive Director Public Policy cc:Burleson Smith, USDA Adam Sharp, EPA Jim Jones, EPA Anne Lindsay, EPA Lois Rossi, EPA
