The American Iron and Steel Institute ("AISI") is pleased to submit comments on the proposed "Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica; Proposed Rule." AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 23 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and approximately 125 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.

NOTICE OF INTENT TO TESTIFY

Proposed Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica Rule; 78 Federal Register 56247 (September 12, 2013) and 78 Federal Register 654242 (October 31, 2013)

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) hereby requests time to testify at OSHA's public hearing on this proposed rule concerning respirable crystalline silica. Brett Smith, or a designee, will appear on behalf of AISI. His contact information is below. He will require 10 minutes to present his testimony, which will detail the potential impact of this proposed rule on the operations of the North American steel industry.
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 24 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and approximately 125 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity. AISI member companies have made substantial efforts to decrease the number and frequency of workplace incidents and continue to work through AISI to share information and best practices to meet their shared goal of improving occupational safety and health.
