Abstract

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposes to issue a rule, if all applicable standards are met, approving an application from the State of Colorado under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to grant primary enforcement authority to the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission for Class VI injection wells located within the state, except those in Indian country. The EPA will review the State of Colorado’s program to ensure that it has demonstrated their program standards meet or exceed the stringency of federal requirements in preventing the endangerment of underground sources of drinking water as required under section 1422 of the SDWA for the Class VI UIC program.
