What American Soybean Association filed (2)
The American Soybean Association believes the United States and other countries should abide by WTO rules, originally advocated by the United States, that require that health and safety be determined by a rational and science-based decision making process. As such, ASA does not support provisions of the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2008 that preclude the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture from expending any funds to conduct a risk assessment and evaluation of the safety of poultry imports from the Republic of China. We believe that the provisions violate U.S. obligations under the World Trade Organization (WTO), and U.S. interests to ensure that health and safety decisions are based on science.
