What Center for Biological Diversity filed (2)
Please accept the following comments on behalf of the Center for Biological Diversity and Texas Physicians for Social Responsibility in response to the Fish and Wildlife Service's publishing of a proposed rule for station-specific hunting and sport fishing regulations for several National Wildlife Refuges for the 2022-2023 season (FWS-HQ-NWRS-2022-0055; 87 Fed. Reg. 35136). We urge FWS to avoid delays that threaten public health and the environment and phase-out lead ammunition across the entire refuge system by September 30, 2024. The science is clear that lead ammunition and tackle pose a significant threat to wildlife and human health, there are a wide range of cost-effective and readily available alternatives, and FWS has the duty to protect the health of native wildlife and human health on the National Wildlife Refuge system. See attached comments.
