Attached, please find the signatures of 49,165 Environmental Defense Fund supporters from across the country who have submitted comments regarding Docket ID EPA-HQ-OAR-2017-0355. The text of each comment submitted reads: "I am extremely disappointed in EPA's proposed plan to "replace" the Clean Power Plan. This watered-down version would not meet the agency's legal obligation to protect Americans from the devastating effects of climate change that we are already experiencing today, from super-charged hurricanes to seemingly unstoppable wildfires. We deserve better. "The Clean Power Plan would achieve a 32 percent reduction in carbon pollution from existing power plants once fully implemented, compared to 2005 levels. It would also cut pollution that harms human health, preventing up to 90,000 childhood asthma attacks, 1,700 heart attacks, and 4,500 premature deaths every year. "But according to the RIA of this new plan, it would lead to over 1,000 additional deaths from air pollution in 2030 alone, relative to the Clean Power Plan. This is not acceptable. Any revision to the Clean Power Plan must provide Americans with greater protections from harmful climate pollution, not less." Please find attached Environmental Defense Fund's request for public hearings on EPA's proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan, EPA-HQ-OAR-2017-0355
The EPA is taking action to repeal the Carbon Pollution Emission Guidelines for Existing Stationary Sources: Electric Utility Generating Units (EGUs), commonly referred to as the Clean Power Plan, as promulgated October 23, 2015. The EPA is also proposing the Affordable Clean Energy rule which would establish emission guidelines for states to develop plans to address greenhouse gas emissions from existing coal-fired power plants. The ACE rule would replace the 2015 Clean Power Plan, which EPA has proposed to repeal because it exceeded EPA's authority.
