The Institute for Policy Integrity at New York University School of Law respectfully submits the attached comments (along with enclosed references) on behalf of the Environmental Defense Fund, the Institute for Policy Integrity, the Montana Environmental Information Center, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Sierra Club, and the Union of Concerned Scientists.
We submit the attached comments on behalf of Clean Air Council, Clean Air Task Force, Center for Biological Diversity, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Earthjustice, Earthworks, Environmental Defense Fund, Environmental Integrity Project, Environmental Law and Policy Center, Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, National Parks Conservation Association, Columbia Riverkeeper, and Waterkeeper Alliance (together, "Joint Environmental Commenters"). Joint Environmental Commenters' comments are informed by the urgent need to reduce emissions of methane and other harmful pollutants from the U.S. oil and natural gas sector. Based on this critical scientific imperative, the Joint Environmental Commenters strongly oppose EPA's illegal and unauthorized proposed revisions to the new source performance standards for the oil and gas sector.
To Whom It May Concern, Attached, please find the signatures of 50,641 Environmental Defense Fund supporters from across the country who have submitted electronic comments in opposition to EPA's Proposed Rule: "Oil and Natural Gas Sector: Emission Standards for New, Reconstructed, and Modified Sources Review." The comment they each submitted reads: "I am writing today extremely disappointed in -- and in extreme opposition to -- the EPA's proposal to completely eliminate limits on methane pollution from the oil & gas industry. "Giving industry a free pass to pollute isn't good for our health, safety, or economy. It will push us closer to the brink of the climate crisis, and it even goes against what some of the biggest players in the industry -- including Shell, BP, and ExxonMobil -- have asked of you. "There is an entire methane mitigation industry ready to step up and tackle this challenge. It is simply irresponsible to undermine their progress -- and the oil and gas industry's call to action -- in a way that puts Americans at risk. "Please strongly reconsider this decision, and walk back this dangerous proposal." If you have any questions or concerns about this submission, please let me know. Sincerely, Heather Shelby Manager, Grassroots Organizing & Activism Environmental Defense Fund hshelby@edf.org
