Establishment of Class D Airspace, Ft. Riley, KS

EAA does not object to the establishment of the Class D airspace at Fort Riely, KS, Marshall Army Airfield (KFRI). EAA does object to retaining the size of the current Class E2 airspace and simply converting it into the same size Class D airspace. Marshall AAF has a small (4,500 foot runway) that is restricted to aircraft with a maximum gross weight of 22,000 pounds. This limits the size and types of aircraft that may operate there. As such, EAA is requesting the FAA reduce the size of the existing Class E2 airspace and the proposed Class D airspace from a 3.7 mile radius to a 3.4 mile radius. EAA feels the reduced size of both the Class E2 and the Class D airspace will allow the continued safe operation of all aircraft operating to/from Marshall AAF.
