It is long overdue for the FAA to reduce the number of overflights in the Grand Canyon National Park. To restore natural quiet, we need to increase the number of flight-free zones, to provide no-fly curfews in the morning and the evening. Definitely keep aircraft away from sensitive sites, and eliminate flights below the rim, such as those that take place on the east end of the north rim. We must require quiet technology on any flights allowed, and reduce the number of air tours as necessary to meet the goal of substantial restoration. Commercial exploitation by the few should not be allowed to negatively affect the many who come for the unique experience of natural quiet in our national parks. Conservation is the fundamental purpose of our national parks, and we citizens support the strongest implementation of substantial restoration of natural quiet.
