The League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns opposes further confiscation of Hudson Riverfronts for barge parking space. Environmental organizations and communities have spent many years reclaiming and developing the riverfront as a resource for citizens, partially in response to a NYS sponsored Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. We view this proposal as a threat to aquatic life, aesthetics and recreation with the additionl risk of hydrocarbon spills and explosions. Our consensus, established more than ten years ago, states (in part): "The League of Women Voters of the Rivertowns supports measures to preserve and enhance Hudson Rivertowns identity, scenic views, historic and natural resources . . . "
