Hello, I have become aware that Homeland Security is considering increasing the fees for citizenship, green cards, asylum seekers, DACA and others. As a citizen concerned about the continued negativity toward immigrants in our Government and some of our citizens this concerns me. Citizenship is already too expensive in my opinion-it is like we are selling citizenship to those who can afford it. Many people come to our country because of opportunity, safety, and for the betterment of themselves. We, as a country, and you, as the process, should be making this less expensive, not more. I hope that you will reconsider and drop this proposal. I admire people who leave their homes to have a better life. I am proud that they choose the United States. I hope you are too. Abstract

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposes to adjust certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees charged by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). USCIS conducted a comprehensive biennial fee review and determined that current fees do not recover full cost. DHS proposes to adjust USCIS fees by a weighted average increase of 21 percent, add new fees for certain benefit requests, establish multiple fees for petitions for nonimmigrant workers, and limit the number of beneficiaries on certain forms to ensure that USCIS has the resources it needs to provide adequate service to applicants and petitioners. Adjustments to the fee schedule are necessary to recover the full operating costs associated with administering the nation’s lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity, and efficiently and fairly adjudicating immigration benefit requests, while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.
