Abstract
This draft guidance updates the Guidance for Conducting Fish and Wildlife Consumption Surveys (EPA-823-B-98-007, November 1998). EPA has revised the guidance in an effort to assist states, tribes, local governments, and others with the design, conduct, and analysis of surveys focused on characterizing contemporary consumption of finfish and shellfish. Since issuing the 1998 guidance, there have been many changes in the area of survey research including use of mobile devices and the Internet. This updated guidance covers a broad overview of the numerous and complex issues surrounding the development of a study approach, identification of survey objectives, sampling options, mode selection, questionnaire development, and operational and analytical considerations. The guidance also includes new sections on fish consumption suppression and the role of heritage rates, especially among tribal populations.
