Manufacturers in America are committed to the communities in which they live and serve, and dedicated to protecting the health, safety and vibrancy of those communities. The National Association of Manufacturers appreciates this opportunity to comment on the Environmental Protection Agency's proposal to designate new substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980. Through constant innovation, investment and dedication, manufacturers in the U.S. have become leaders in environmental stewardship and protection, while continuing to be the engine that drives our nation's economic growth and prosperity. The NAM welcomes the continued work of the agency regarding fluorinated chemicals, specifically compounds related to poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances, including its PFAS Strategic Roadmap to establish meaningful regulatory steps to safeguard communities from potential contamination and promote certainty that can result in reinvestment into communities. Manufacturers support pragmatic regulatory policies that strengthen science-based environmental and public health protections, while ensuring supply chains and the broader economy do not experience unintended negative impacts. Manufacturers embrace our role in helping to protect our planet and to build a sustainable and strong economy. Complicated work awaits the EPA and policymakers, so please consider the NAM as a resource and committed partner. Please see attached comments.
