I am writing in response to your proposal to reduce the use of ethanol in the Renewable Fuel Standard. Biofuels provide a clean, renewable alternative to oil, allowing us to decarbonize transportation fuels, reducing the need for more drilling and fracking that pollutes our water, air and pristine habitats. On average, corn ethanol reduces CO2 emissions by 34 percent and advanced biofuels can reduce emissions by 100 percent or more over gasoline. Globally, ethanol has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 110 million metric tons - the equivalent of taking more than 20 million vehicles off the road. Biofuels displace cancer-causing gasoline additives like benzene, the same chemicals found in cigarette smoke. These dangerous additives have also been linked to asthma and drinking water contamination. I strongly urge you to fully implement the Renewable Fuel Standard as passed by Congress. I am writing in response to your proposal to reduce the use of ethanol in the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). I believe that a fully realized RFS that a bipartisan congress passed will put money back in the pockets of hard-working Americans. As result of the RFS, ethanol is now blended in 97 percent of our gas supply and has helped to reduce gasoline prices by as much as $.50 to $1.50 a gallon. The RFS drives billions of dollars of economic activity across the U.S., starting with farmers and rural communities. The ethanol industry supports nearly 400,000 jobs and contributes nearly $52 billion to our Gross Domestic Product. The bottom line is that the RFS creates jobs, empowers struggling rural communities and is saving consumers at the pump. I strongly urge you to fully implement the Renewable Fuel Standard as passed by Congress. Thousands of advocates who agree with these statements are attached with unique email and IP addresses.

Abstract

Each year EPA must determine and announce the applicable standards that apply to producers and importers of gasoline and diesel for the following calendar year. This docket is for the rulemaking that will set the standards that will apply in 2017.
