The National Mining Association (NMA) respectfully requests a 30-day extension of the comment deadline provided for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rule, "Asbestos; Reporting and Recordkeeping Requirements Under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)." 87 Fed. Reg. 27,060 (May 6, 2022). The NMA's letter requesting this extension is attached.

Abstract

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is developing a rule to establish reporting and recordkeeping requirements for asbestos under section 8(a) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). TSCA section 8(a) authorizes EPA to collect information about chemical uses, production volumes, disposal, exposures, and hazards. Accordingly, this rulemaking would collect reports by manufacturers, importers, and processors of asbestos (including certain mixtures and articles containing asbestos). Reported information would be used by EPA and other Federal agencies in considering the regulation of asbestos.
