We submit these comments on the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's Draft Wind Energy Areas -- Commercial Leasing for Wind Power Development on the Gulf of Maine OCS on behalf of National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, Mass Audubon, Maine Audubon, and National Audubon Society.
This notice invites public comment on the Draft Wind Energy Area (WEA) on the Outer Continental Shelf offshore the States of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts and presents the results of a spatial suitability model developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) and informed by BOEM. On August 19, 2022, BOEM initiated the competitive leasing process by issuing a Request for Interest (RFI). BOEM then published a Call for Information and Nominations on April 26, 2023.
