Dear BOEM, Please accept these 12,725 public comments from members and activists of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in reference to Docket # BOEM-2025-0015. I urge you to refrain from issuing new lease sales for offshore oil and gas drilling through the National OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program. The U.S. is already the world's leading producer of oil and gas — we don't need to auction off more of our oceans for dangerous and destructive drilling. Offshore drilling threatens endangered marine wildlife and communities that depend on healthy coastal waters and fish populations for their livelihoods. By contributing to the climate crisis, it also increases the risk of more extreme weather events that wreak havoc on our environment and economy. Catastrophic oil spills cause ecological, economic, and public health damages that can last for decades. More drilling means we're that much closer to the next oil spill disaster. Abstract

The 10th National OCS Program, for 2024 to 2029, was approved on December 14, 2023, and went into effect on July 1, 2024. BOEM is soliciting information on the preparation of a new, 11th National OCS Program to, upon completion, replace the 10th Program.
