Before the Environmental Protection Agency: Comments of the Natural Resources Defense Council on the Petition to Suspend and Cancel All Registrations for the Soil Fumigant Iodomethane, Attn: Docket EPA-HQ-OPP-2010-0541-0010 Please find attached 2 documents: 1) our current comments and 2) our comments from 2006 which is an attachment to our current comment submission. These comments are submitted on behalf of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a national environmental and public interest organization with 1.2 million members and online activists nationwide. NRDC supports the petition filed by Earthjustice on behalf of numerous farmworker organizations to suspend and cancel the soil fumigant iodomethane. Iodomethane, or methyl iodide, is used as a pre-plant fumigant in fields to be planted with tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, some ornamentals, turf, and re-plant trees and vines.
