The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Earthjustice submit these comments on EPA's use of new approach methods (NAMs) in its draft hazard assessments for o-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) and p-dichlorobenzene (p-DCB) and draft risk evaluation for 1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethylcyclopenta [g]-2-benzopyran (HHCB). We request that a copy of these comments and the attached materials be provided to the members of the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals before their June 8, 2026 meeting.

Abstract

The Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) will review the draft risk evaluations for 1,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethylcyclopenta [g]-2-benzopyran (HHCB) and phthalic anhydride, including risk characterization and associated technical support documents related to hazard and exposure assessment, and will also review the draft hazard assessments for o-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) and p-dichlorobenzene (p-DCB), including the draft technical support documents for human health and ecological hazard.
