Dear EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler Please kindly accept the attached 20,857 public comments from members and activists of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), in opposition to the proposed rollback of the federal Lead and Copper Rule. There's no safe level of lead exposure. Exposure to lead is particularly toxic to children and developing fetuses, causing serious, irreversible damage to their developing brains and nervous systems. And lead is linked to fertility issues, cardiovascular disease, and kidney problems in otherwise healthy adults. We ask that you do everything you can to protect communities across the country from lead. Specifically, please require that all water systems fully remove all lead service lines at their expense within 10 years or less, and strengthen requirements for testing and treating the water to ensure reduced lead levels. And I reject the weakening of current rules including the proposal to extend to over 33 years the requirement to replace lead pipes in the most severely contaminated water systems. We don't want another generation of our children to be drinking toxic lead. Safe drinking water is a right and a necessity. Thank you.
