Dear Fish and Wildlife Service, Please accept these 11,159 public comments from members and activists of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in reference to Docket # FWS-R3-ES-2024-0137. Please finalize the FWS proposal to list the monarch butterfly as a threatened species and designate critical habitat for monarchs under the Endangered Species Act. Dangerous pesticides like glyphosate and neonics, used especially in agricultural areas, are a significant factor in the decline of monarch populations. These types of toxic pesticides are also responsible for the sharp decline of bees and other pollinators and threaten our food supply and health. We need monarchs, and we must protect them before it's too late. I will not stand by while this vital species is driven over the brink of extinction. I urge you to do your part to help finalize this crucial plan with strong protections from agricultural pesticides. Thank you. In December, you issued a proposal to list monarch butterflies as a threatened species and designate critical habitat for monarchs under the Endangered Species Act. I urge you to finalize that proposal to grant monarchs the protections they need to survive — especially protection from dangerous pesticides used in agriculture. Neonics, glyphosate, and other pesticides are a major factor in the decline of monarch populations. These same pesticides are also responsible for the alarming decline of bees and other pollinators and threaten our food supply and health. Our planet needs monarchs, and we are running out of time to protect them. I will not stand by and watch this species be driven over the brink of extinction. Please do your part to help by finalizing this important plan with strong protections from agricultural pesticides. Thank you.
