Protecting our waters from environmental disaster means saying, NO to drilling in them. For the health of humans, marine life and wildlife and for the health of the water, we must be resolved to not drill at all. What legacy will we live our children?

While these comments will address only the Mid- and South Atlantic Planning Areas, a number of the undersigned organizations have joined separate comment letters opposing drilling in other areas of the Outer Continental Shelf ("OCS").

I oppose Atlantic Coast Offshore Drilling and will help to gather citizens to help prevent it.

I urge you to exclude Virginia from any offshore drilling for gas or oil. The reasons for this request are the same as those that allowed Florida to be excluded from offshore drilling. To allow such drilling will endanger the fishing industry, the military activities and the tourism -- all of which are of great importance to citizens of Virginia and our livelihood as well as quality of life. Thousands of businesses will be impacted by the problems that occur with offshore drilling. It is obvious from the disasters that have occurred in offshore drilling rigs, such as the Deepwater Horizon, that such drilling is not only unsightly, but also extremely dangerous. In addition, we need to put resources into renewable power sources, such as solar and wind, rather than oil and gas which are contributing to the serious problem of global climate change.

The Effect on me personally: I run the risk, I don't get the benefit, I'm not taking the risk voluntarily. This is not fair to me and the millions of other regular citizens who are like me. We get more benefits from clean coastal areas, uncontaminated seafood, and clean water than we get from increased oil company profits. For me, off-shore energy development should be solar or wind. Avoid these unnecessary risks to people's health, livelihoods, and the environment that can happen in seconds and persist for decades. Incentivize the oil companies to diversify into renewables if we want to do energy development 3 miles off shore.
