I OPPOSE Obama administration opening new oil and gas leases
I am opposed to any offshore drilling for oil and gas on the Outer Continental Shelf. We rely on tourism here on the Outer Banks of NC and drilling off our coast could/will cause major problems. Please do not drill and maybe you should consider wind power, as we live in one of the most windy places on earth.
Extremely concerned over the long term environmental effects of offshore drilling. Coastlines protection and marine life are just the tip of the iceberg as far as environmental impacts. We should look to promote cleaner more efficient power sources off the coast of North Carolina. Harvesting the wind energy which is quite abundant would be the first place to start.
not worth the risk. we should be investing in sustainable, renewable energy that does not have the potential to kill wildlife, destroy fisheries, threaten the livelihood of millions of people. just a bad idea all around. wake up!!! its not about easiest profits anymore.
The Surfrider Foundation submits the enclosed scoping comments in response to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Managements (BOEM) Notice of Intent to Prepare a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the Proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), 2017-2022 Oil and Gas Leasing Program (Program).
Offshore drilling is obviously not a good risk to take. Let the money go. Tourism and peace are better than oil.
I Strongly believe that the region has a thriving tourism industry that have been creating thousands of jobs every year. There are statistics available that back my belief. These jobs are real and the tourism industry as a whole is growing in this region. I think Oil business is crucial and I do understand the value of it. However, Think about all the hurricanes that this region have experienced in the past and will still experience in the future. Now imagine a scenario where you have oil rigs all over North Carolina's coastal region and think about the consequences when nature strikes. It will be with no doubt a natural disaster that will cost the state tons of money, maybe more money that they were hoping to gain from this deal. Why risk the well being of this beautiful region that attracts visitors from all over the eastern part of the country and an industry that employs thousands of people and bring millions of dollars with an industry that brings high risks and unknown benefits.
I'm against this because it is a bad idea. I just saw on TV where the Gulf is still reeling after 5 years. The shrimp have thin shells and they are still cleaning up. Solar and wind energy would be the best.
The proposed sites for offshore energy development are directly off the coast of one of the most productive and pristine coastlines. North Carolina is home to many saltwater marshes, and unique barrier islands. These resources can and will be threatened by offshore oil drilling, and the 30 year ban that had been in place has allowed this coastline to not be exposed to spills, like that in the Gulf of Mexico. These sites would be better suited to produce energy via wind power. The potential is there, the impacts are much smaller, and the resource will not run out. Please consider offshore wind energy as a viable option for energy production off the mid-Atlantic coast.
The sun, the tides, the wind. Endless supplies of energy. Where is the intelligence? To be found is a significant lack of balance in priorities, and lack of will to venture forth with renewable energies which are waiting to be tapped into.
