Docket ID: USCG-2013-0363 Mr. Roddy Bachman, U.S. Coast Guard Ms. Tracey Ford, Maritime Administration RE: Liberty Natural Gas, LLC; Port Ambrose Deepwater Port License Application Mr. Bachman and Ms. Ford, The New York City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation would like to state our opposition to the Liberty Natural Gas: Port Ambrose Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project (Port Ambrose). We believe that a Deepwater Port License should not be awarded to Port Ambrose. Our chapter represents 900+ members who use the coastal beaches and waters of New York on a daily basis, year round. We experience first hand the ecological, economic, and cultural worth of these fantastic natural resources. The Port Ambrose project puts these resources at risk, a risk that is too great compared to the benefits they bring to New York residents. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vetoed a nearly identical project to Port Ambrose in 2011, citing, "unacceptable and substantial risks to the States residents, natural resources, economy and security." The proposed location for Port Ambrose is between the shipping lanes of the busiest port on the U.S. East Coast, and additionally, the location overlaps with the proposed New York Power Authority (NYPA) offshore wind facility lease area. Clean, safe, renewable power should be our priority, not dirty and dangerous fossil fuels. There are many other reasons to oppose Port Ambrose, but for our members it is simple: the purported benefits of the project do not outweigh the real risks to our coastal resources and communities. Please deny a Deepwater Port License to Port Ambrose. Thank you for considering our comments, Nicholas Lynn Chair, New York City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation
